ENGAGING YOUNG PEOPLE
Young people are the land managers of the future! For this reason, Mount Roland Land Care has been actively seeking to increase young people's participation in our group.
Our actions include:
-
Introducing family and young person membership categories, and allowing young people over 12 to vote and to be elected to the Committee.
-
Organising the Naturally Kentish Creative Opportunity for Young People Under 20 [Apr 2025]. Find out more about this wonderful event here .
-
Supporting youth member Laura Wildsmith's Where the Wild Plants Grow, a nursery for native plants indigenous to the Mount Roland Region. The nursery has grown around 5000 seedlings since its inception. The short film below gives a great insight into the nursery and the exceptional young people who are involved in it. The film is directed by Justin Wildsmith.
-
Hosting (in conjunction with Laura Wildsmith) a Seed Collecting Workshop for Youth [Jan 2025]
-
Attracting more young people to our Tree Planting days. The local Cub Scouts have joined us at these activities and we aim to develop this relationship further.
-
Hosting a visit by the Scout Rovers to Mount Roland [Jan 2023]. Details here.
-
Co-hosting tree planting events with Sheffield School and Wilmot School [since 2023].
